Blogs Versus Publications

What’s the difference between a blog and a publication?

Blogs publish actionable steps. Publications just push stories out as often as possible.

With a publication there’s a tendency to write about everything, and often. With a blog you can be focused, and become a master of a subject.

As blogs scale, they have a tendency to move towards this publication methodology. That’s normally because of two reasons:

  1. They receive a huge bout of funding and bring in top editors that previously worked at publications
  2. They have pressure from the board to publish at least once a day, and their content strategy isn’t as scalable as the demand.

The danger of publishing frequently is you have a tendency to go introspective. Your writing stops becoming for your customer, and more for yourself.
